Getting started with Otezla
Recently prescribed or considering Otezla for psoriasis treatment? Here’s what you need to know about this pill for psoriasis.
The Otezla Prescribing Information has no requirement for blood tests, so once your doctor prescribes you Otezla, you can start treatment right away.
Otezla dosing
Otezla is an oral medication, meaning it's taken by mouth every day, once in the morning, and once at night. For example, you can take Otezla with breakfast and dinner each day, or after you brush your teeth in the morning and at night. You can take Otezla with or without food. Do not crush, split, or chew the pill.
On your first day, you only take one pill. For people with severe kidney disease, Otezla is one pill a day. Be sure to take Otezla as directed by your doctor.
Your first week on Otezla
Conveniently, your Otezla prescription will be sent right to your doorstep each month. (That means no trip to the pharmacy to pick it up.)
When you first start treatment, you’ll have a 5-day titration period, which means that you’ll gradually increase your dose over your first 5 days until you reach the recommended dose. People with severe kidney disease will follow a different schedule for their titration period.
